あるエンジニアリング企業の新卒向け会社説明会に仕事で参加したところ、大変印象的に残る話がありました。

この企業は様々な技術を持っていますが、その一つとしてMAS（マルチエージェントシステム）の技術も扱っています。

例えば遊園地のアトラクションが混雑しているとき、人をアトラクションに万遍なく分布させたいと運営側は考えます。

どうすればそれが可能となるかについて、つまりどのような人にどう混雑状況を伝えれば、適切に人が移動して、混雑が緩和されるのかについてシミュレーションするというわけです。では、実際にどうすれば適切に配分できるのかですが、それは全員に混雑情報を伝えるのではなく、全体の約40%に伝えることで最適化するというのです。過半数以下という結果は想像よりも低くて驚きました。

同じような現象はカーナビにもあります。

カーナビは混雑状況を知らせる非常に便利なシステムですが、全ての車輌にそれが搭載されていたらどうでしょう。全ての車輌がカーナビが示す最適ルートに集中し、逆に道が混んでしまうことが予想されます。現時点では全ての車輌にカーナビが搭載されていないのでそんな心配は杞憂だと思いますが、日々シェア拡大を狙うカーナビ業界としては、ここに市場の限界があります。

情報は全ての人が知っていればいいわけではなく、一部の人が知っているからこそ、全ての人が幸せになる。
